You Know How They Say Bad Things Come in Threes? Geez.

Came home yesterday evening after a busy day at work and a very nice Thanksgiving meal with friends to a door that had been busted open.

The main thing they took besides some jewelery was the valet case from my husbands dresser. All our spare car keys, a Sears card, and other paperwork - gone.

We spent the evening hiding our cars since our garage is unattached and super easy to break into, especially if you had keys to the two cars inside which happen to be amongst the most stolen vehicles (Hondas).

What is so crazy, is that when I discovered that the jerk, who incidentally SMELLED and stunk up my bedroom with his BODY ODOR and CIGARETTE, hauled his loot away in my lovely linen pillow sham which was long searched for and irreplaceable I became LIVID and screamed and kicked the bed. My daughter says robbers should carry their OWN bags, and doggone it, she's right.

So this is the THIRD lousy thing that happened this Fall (perhaps you recall my husband's car accident which totalled his car and my daughter's head injury in the middle of the night), so I hope it is the LAST, because I am due for some BETTER LUCK.

The end.

That is truly terrifying! I hope they get this person so that you can rest easier! So thankful that you all weren't at home to get hurt!!

Oh I am so sorry! That is just terrible. And on Thanksgiving! Well at least no one was home and no one was hurt. But STILL! Here's hoping things look up for you soon.

I am so sorry that happened to you! And on Thanksgiving, too. It happened to us last May--someone broke into the back door of our house and made off with two laptop computers, our Wii (the kids were so upset), and several other things, none of which was irreplaceable, thank goodness. But we were IN THE HOUSE, ASLEEP when they came in, which was so, so creepy and terrifying--after the fact. Because the dog didn't even wake up, and we never heard a thing. Anyway, I understand the feeling of violation, and I hope you get some of your stuff back. We got one laptop later, which was recovered in a Homeland Security sting, of all things...if only the computer could talk, it might have some interesting stories!

I'm so sorry to hear this!! How awful. I'm glad that you and your family are okay, though. What a thing to come home to--on a holiday no less. I hope they find the guy--how nasty!

Tara-I'm sorry that you had to go through this especially on a holiday! I hope that they find the creep(s)that did this! The same thing happened to my family several years ago on Thanksgiving and we were out of state. It was awful and I totally understand your feelings of violation and anger! The only thing that helped me was reminding myself that the things that were taken were "things" and my family was safe and sound. It took awhile to let it go and it still hurts to think about the irreplaceable jewelry that was taken that were very special to me.

Tara..I'm so sorry this happened to you. I understand how the linen pillow sham was the last straw and made you blow your top. Hugs. I hope they catch the noxious b--...well, you know what I mean...

Thanks everyone for your kind words and for sharing your stories. It means a lot to me! Gentle Reader, that is such a scary story, you being in the house. Unbelievable. It's too bad our cat cannot speak! We wondered if she tried to get him to feed her. Really though, we're glad he didn't hurt her.

Omg, that's so scary and SUCKS! You're right they should carry their own bags. Jerks. Take care of yourself.

Oh, Tara, I'm so sorry. We were robbed when we were living in Tulsa and I was 9 months pregnant with our eldest. Because my hands were puffy from pregnancy, I'd removed my engagement ring -- that was the hardest thing to lose. I've never bothered to replace the ring. It's a horrible feeling knowing someone has been in your home, violated your private space and taken your things. Lots of hugs to you. Hang in there.

Oh, Tara, poor you! what a beastly thing to happen. I hope things get much much better from now on.

I'm horrified by what happened, Tara. I think maybe your luck is good - your husband wasn't hurt, your daughter was fine, and your house is okay and you weren't in it to be harmed. Wanna come move here??

Tara, I am so sorry to hear about this (as well as the other fall happenings!). We've had a similar experience, and it's just an awful feeling. Hugs to you, and you are definitely done now...you've had your share of the bad.

Oh Tara this is absolutely horrible! Sending you some good luck vibes and hopefully all this bad stuff is over for good.

Bookfool, I am so sorry your engagement ring was taken- and you were pregnant! Oh, no. We are both glad here that I wear mine regularly.

Nan, you are certainly the optimist and you are right about the luck.

I certainly hope that puts an end to your run of bad happenings. Our last house was broken into 3 times - the last time was the straw that broke the camel's back as it were and we moved. We have been in our current place for 9 years and have not experienced any crime in our new area. I hope that your break-in was your first and your last!

I don't know how I missed this post but I went looking when I read your Tidbit post. How horrible! The stinky bastard probably went in for a few, key items and then needed your pillowcase to hold the unexpected loot.

You are definitely in need of some good luck. I am thinking good thoughts for you.

I'm so sorry that happened to y'all! How scary and invasive. I got mugged a few years ago outside my house, and I had a hard time feeling safe again. I hope things start getting better for you.
