Thoughts and a winner.

A profound thing happened in the United States last night.

I am proud to have been a part of it.

I am proud that my 6 year old took pride in casting her vote at school yesterday and that the moment she woke up this morning she called "Mama? Did anyone win yet?".

I was proud to tell her that even though she doesn't realize it now, she will remember when she is an old lady, that she was eating popcorn and watching the returns with me, and that vote she cast at school. That she will tell people that she remembers.

It is an amazing and wondrous day in the history of this country.

The winner of The Heretic's Daughter is Chris. Congratulations!

And my boy left a message on the machine at 6:30 this morning: "we did it. I can't believe it. I'm glad it all worked out and it went to our candidate for once." This is our children's election in many ways. I am thankful beyond words.

Tara- our oldest son stayed up to watch it with us. He was jumping on the bed and shouting. Isn't it amazing to watch them be a part of this too?

I feel the same way.. My son watched the returns with me, my daughter was already in bed but she woke up and said "Is it Obama Mama?" How sweet is that?

I wanted to be in the US so bad yesterday, even though I wasn't there, it was still a wonderful day. Voting abroad is a pain, but I'm glad I did!

Nan, what a great call to get! It really is our children's election, our country is going in a new direction.

J Danger, It is amazing how much kids relate to this! I love getting them involved, though not everyone agrees.

Iliana, it was and it is!

Ti, so sweet!

Bybee, I'm sure you walked so proudly yesterday representing us all abroad!

It is truly historic. Both my sons, ages 19 and 20 voted in their first every election. Definitely something they'll always remember!

It got a fair amount of attention here in Australia too. One of the commercial stations devoted the whole day to its coverage.

Glad your daughter seems to have understood its significance.

That's excellent! I'm glad she got to cast her vote, too. I wish my school had done more of that sort of thing when I was growing up.

Lisa, how exciting for them!

Marie, yes it is!

Pink Lady bug, that is so amazing to me.

Andi, me too. I didn't know the first thing about it, and my parents were not the involved sort. I think registering to vote was tied to jury duty so they avoided it. Pretty silly. I do remember taking a quiz in high school and discovering that I was the only one with liberal views in the class!
