The bad news.....and the good

Irritating things keep happening to me this week.

-I received a book through paperbackswap that was water damaged, moldy, and had writing throughout.
-I did a gift card swap and received a non-transferable merchandise credit so we are working on rectifying that.
-My credit card may have been compromised due to a 'phishing' email from someone pretending to be paypal.
-Another fitted sheet is worn through - the second sheet in two weeks! Now I have only one set left.
-It seems like there's something else. Perhaps the fact that it was -16 this morning.

But....lovely things have happened as well. For example, Eva and Bybee gave me the You Make My Day Award. That makes my week! Thanks so much ; I needed that. I'm to award this to 10 more people....which is so hard. Every time someone I read posts, that makes my day.

1. Mel from lit*chick
2. Becca from Becca & Bella
3. Lisa at Pfeifferbooknotes
4. LK at The Literate Kitten
5. Geraniumcat at Geranium Cat's Bookshelf
6. Robin from A Fondness for Reading
7. Nan from Letters From a Hill Farm
8. Literary Feline
9. Kay from My Random Acts of Reading
10. Cath from Read-Warbler

And just because I think this post could use a few more links.....

Have you heard of the singer Joshua Radin? He's a singer/songwriter/guitar-playing acoustic folksy guy - check him out here on the Ellen show. I've been to see him twice and I'm crazy about his music. This song will be on his second album. I even got to meet him once - he's nice, too.

Would the person who sent me to The Traveler IQ Challenge please stand up? Try it. I'm hooked, so it my husband and a few of his coworkers.

That's all for now.

P.S. I know I've sworn off challenges....but has there ever been an India challenge? With all the great suggestions from my last post, there would be lots to choose from.

Are you putting in a complaint for that damaged book? I've gotten really annoyed from receiving (3 times!) books that didn't match their descriptions- they were different editions (and I want specific ones) but hey, it's (nearly) free books so I can't complain too much. But water damage and writing? That's pretty awful.

thanks for the sweet shout out! new posts on your site make me giddy too.i'm sorry you're having a week of weird wrongs. :)

Ummm, the Traveler IQ Challenge very well could be my fault, but I got addicted thanks to Carrie K's post. :)

As to the PBS book, I've gotten enough damaged books that I added extra conditions and no longer plan to check in a book that doesn't at least meet the PBS conditions. They don't apparently respond to complaints because they receive too many. Most of the books I've received have been in pretty decent shape, but it's really annoying when someone sends a book with water damage. You'd think they would bother to read the guidelines!!

Thanks so much for the award, Tara. Sorry your week has been not fun in some respects. However, I think an India challenge sounds fun (except I don't really do challenges). My problem with them is that I never know exactly what I want to read, plus running two book groups and reading the books attached to those seems to be enough "must reads" for me.

Oh, and I finally went and checked out the Traveler IQ Challenge. My goodness, I must forgert that url. I could spend way too much time there!

Ack! When it's bad it is bad. :-) I hope nothing comes of your credit card possibly being compromised. Those scams are so nasty.

My week hasn't been all that great either, I'm afraid. And then I find you've given me the You Make My Day Award. :-) Thank you so much, Tara. The time I spend visiting my favorite blogs (yours, for example) is always uplifting--kind of my unwinding time and a chance to visit with friends. You definitely made my day today and with every blog entry you post.

Jeane, I did and fortunately the person was willing to give my point back. And the sender only owned up to the writing when he/she responded! It is awful - the book is gross.

Melanie, you are so welcome and I'm glad we 'met'!

Bookfool, ah yes...I think I tried to ignore it the first time but your link did me in. Good idea about not checking the book in! I've had good luck generally, but was miffed when I responded and the person still got the point and I had to ask for it back.

Kay, You are welcome. And I know what you mean about challenges. I don't do them because as soon as I'm committed, it seems like work.

Literary Feline, sorry to hear you're having a stinky week as well. I agree that blog-reading is definitely a happy time for me, too.

Thanks so much! I love reading your blog, as well. I hope the next few days are better than the last. The -16 would be enough for me. I'm complaining about the temperatures here in North Carolina. I know, I'm a wimp when it comes to cold weather. Thanks, again and have a great day!

Tara, I just tuned in and saw that I make your day! How lovely! And you just made mine! :)

I love meandering through your blog -- it reminds me of being at home with my slippers on, making popcorn. Homey and comfy.

I got a moldy book once from one of those used booksellers at Amazon -- I opened the package and coughed and sneezed my head off. Probably had anthrax in it or something. Sigh. I sprayed Lysol in a big Ziploc and put the book in there and that seemed to make it less ucky. To use a technical term.

Hey! Aren't you nice to give me such an award! I deeply appreciate it, Tara, and as Ellen says, right back at ya. :<)

I haven't been well for a couple of days, plus have my brother in hospital at the moment, so to come here tonight and find that you put me on your 'You make my day' list has really made *my* day. Thank you so much. I think you already know much I love *your* lovely posts. :-)

And an India challenge would be excellent. (This is because I happen to read the odd book about India of course. *g*)

Lisa, you are most welcome. North Carolina sounds GREAT right now!

LK, I totally love and am flattered by what you've said - "I love meandering through your blog -- it reminds me of being at home with my slippers on, making popcorn. Homey and comfy"

That is so sweet. Will have to try the lysol.

Louise, Hi! Thanks for stopping in! I love your site.

Nan, you are most deserving and welcome.

Cath, I'm so sorry you're having a rough week. You are very welcome. Will have to think more about the India challenge...

Sorry to hear about all the misadventures this week. Especiall having a compromised credit card. I've not had that happen myself, but it has happened at work at least twice. Very annoying. Even more annoying to hear all the places the thief used the card!! Arrrgggh. So I hope you get it straightened out! And surely it has to get warmer soon? It's been cold where I live, too and I am very tired of it!

Isn't that Traveler IQ link addictive?

Hopefully your day will just get better but -16? COLD! New sheets are nice though. Even if you hadn't actually expected to need to buy them...

More links! Awesome.

Tara said...

Bybee, it's tempting, isn't it??

Danielle, and I got another phishing email today (it looks like) from 'aol' saying my bill cannot be paid, so I must furnish billing information. What a scam!

Carrie, yes! Totally addictive. You know what - I hadn't thought of it like that but you're right, new sheets are nice. Thanks!

Tara, thank you so much! I love reading your posts too, and I'm sorry you've been having such a bad week. How miserable to get a written-on book after we had all ranted about how much we hate them! But new sheets to look forward to, that's good...

Thanks for including me on your Makes My Day list, Tara! I always enjoy coming to your site and reading your posts, too.
